The policy research laboratory, organized in 2007, is responsible for supporting the development of meteorology- related policy, making an strategic plan of the policy, and developing a new strategical meteorology, called KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) Blue Ocean for fostering the development of KMA.
Investigation, analysis, and management of the meteorology-related policy, technology, and research trends
Study on implementation of short-term policy and planning
Study on exploration of future strategical meteorologies
Background
  - Increasing necessity of research and development about climate change and severe
   weathers associated with global warming
  - Insufficiency of the objective information on the driving direction of policy, present state of
R&D investment, technology level, and market scale related to meteorology for
   developing advanced meteorology technologies
Goals
  - Provision of more objective information on technology level and market scale related to
   meteorology
  - Presentation of milestone for meteorological technology development by steps based on
   projected new technology trend

Background
  - Insufficient meteorology R&D investment
  - Effective applications of limited resources
Goals
  - Increased meteorology R&D investment
  - Research and development of strategical key technologies related to meteorology
Effects
  - Raising the meteorological technology level well-matched with future society
  - Strengthening the capacity of future strategy development for advanced meteorological
   services

Background
  - Supporting the development of feasible, predictable and sustainable policy related to
meteorological technologies based on PDSA (Plan-Do-See-Action) Loop
  - Exploring a new strategical meteorology, called ˇ°KMA Blue Oceanˇ± by the foresight of
   rapid future environmental changes
  - Building a cooperative network with international organizations (institutes, universities) for
prompt information exchange of foreign policy trend
